Lake Havasu

Made it to Lake Havasu early afternoon with plenty of setup time. There is a BLM site just south of town, a big old gravel pit of sorts. Mayby a dozen other folks camped there but plenty of room for privacy and the dogs to run. We are about a couple miles out of town but 6 or so miles to nearest store, Havasu is a long town running north/south on hwy 95 with lots of stop lights. We are at the south end and Walmart is at the north end (mayby 15 miles) but plenty of anything you need in between.

Last day of Oct. Windy and cold (cold for this part of the county) last couple days, stayed inside for the most part.

Kinda hard to find a place to set, they like the chairs as much as we do.

Several days ago some folks pulled up 50 yards or so from us and set up a tent, as it turns out they droped off this homeless lady, she must be high class homeless as she has a wheelchair insted of a shopping cart to haul her stuff around in. With the 30-40 mph winds last couple days her tent diden’t fare to well. She stuggled in the wind with it then gave up and came ask for help. I went over knowing it was a waste of time in this wind, what a mess, the tent poles snaped, some duck taped together, told her your going to have to tough it out in a flat tent till this wind quits, sad deal. No wind this morning, looks like a nice day.

Tennessee is home now

Well we found our retirement home. Diden’t take long , we found a home on Watts bar lake, Tennessee river. 1 acre with 1900 sf home, private dock, will close on June 19th so guess our travels are over for now. The address is 1172 Little Dogwood Rd. Kingston TN. Plan is to get a boat and explore the amazing waterways around here not to mention the smokey mountains are only 50 miles away, some of the best motorcycling areas around. It’s been an amazing 8 months sense we left Oregon but look forward to settling in this area, meeting new friends, exploring new territory. Will add some pictures soon.

Tennessee

Just after 2 nites on the road from Oklahoma we made it to eastern TN. Camped at a TVA campground (Jacksons Island) on watts bar lake just outside Spring City. Lucked out getting a spot as its Memorial day weekend. Tennessee is beautiful and people are really friendly.

You dont find campsites like this out west, especially for free and on a holiday weekend.

Oklahoma

We took two days to get to Oologah OK , made it through Dallas no problem, spent the nite just over the border at a really nice rest area outside of Colbert OK, had two fenced in dog runs so we parked right in front of one…perfect. Got set up at Frank & Lynns about noon on friday. Oologah is the birth place of Will Rodgers, theres a cool park set up with his old home (that was actually relocated when they formed Oologah lake). Theres also a nice grass runway where they have an annual flyin right next to the house.

Looking out the camper door at the rest area we stayed.
Fresh veggies from Franks garden.
Corn coming up
Went fishing on a river about an hour away.
Caught 35 catfish, fun day.
They throw treble hooks across the river and try to snag these things as they wont bite on anything.

Lago Vista TX

Looks like we may be staying here for a bit longer than planed because of the coronavirus and that most campgrounds seem to be closing down. We have a nice spot in a private campground that is for Lago Vista property owners or guests, my nephew Ryan lives here.

Well it’s been over a month here in Lago Vista, time to head down the road to the next adventure. leaving here Thursday or Friday and heading to Oologah OK to visit Frank & Lynn Fortney, friends we made in Quartzsite. Oologah is only about 500 miles from here strait north, from there we will head east to TN. The hill country here in TX is beautiful and a great place to ride motorcycles but too expensive to retire, property taxes are off the chart here like $6,500 a year for a $200,000 house. Will have to say the H.E.B grocery stores in TX are awesome, great selection of stuff you don’t see at other stores like there home made tortillas and there very fair priced as well. See ya down the road.

Leaving Quartzsite

Been boon docking here in Quartzsite for several months now and we are getting ready to leave in a few days. Kinda got a bit behind on our blog as well. Waiting for a package then we will head towards Lago Vista TX to spend a bit of time with my sister and her son Ryan. Its starting to get warm here and the snakes are coming out, don’t like snakes..lol. Have had a great time here for sure meeting up with old friends, meeting new friends as well, exploring the desert, checking out the big RV and Outdoor show (the big tent), Silly Al’s Pizza (best pizza ever), camping with Suzy’s son and Mel for a few days (they got a new 5th wheel), and just enjoying the sunshine and warmth in general. Can’t believe we have been gone for 5 months already.

Moon setting same place as sun set last nite. The desert has its own beauty for sure, it will be missed.

We left Quartzsite around 8 am and made it to Lordsburg NM, about 8 hours, couple hours too long for one day. Anyway there is a nice Veterans park on main street just outside of town where we parked for the nite, great place with picnic tables, trees, shade, BBQ pits and its free.

Second day on the road made it to Saragosa TX, found a nice rest area to stop for the nite.

First sunrise in TX

Made it to Lago Vista TX yesterday, probably stay a couple weeks, $15 a day with hookups right on lake travis. Folks are really friendly around here. My sister and here son Ryan also live around here.

Well it seems they are closing the campground where we are at, but we can stay, got the entire campsite to ourselves. Guess we will hang out for a few more weeks and see if things calm down out there.

At least if the stores run out of food we wont go hungry.
